After having some experience with the terrace garden, we wanted to take the next steps but wanted to make sure that we get the clear titles and someone to take care as well. First time things can go wrong as well. So, managed farm land seems to be the best option. We took up a very small land parcel of a bigger a project called Dhanvi in early 2022. It is about 65 KM from our home.
In managed farm land concept we get the land ownership and can decide to give the plant management to the provider. At our land around 70 plants (mostly fruits) managed by them. But in our land parcel I have taken the responsibility to setup ~2500 sqft of multilayer vegetable garden based on the training I have done in Dec’22. It took us few months (March-June’23) to setup everything. It was a such a great and fulfilling experience.
Setting up is just a start but managing it is another thing. Though we get regular harvest but I am yet to get hold to many things like pest control in organic way, right time of sowing, watering etc. Things are getting better week by week. From the last few months we have also started preparing Jeevamruta as well, which has given very positive results.
We have also setup a 5×5 feet store room to store farming tools, batteries of solar setup and basic kitchen items. We have also setup some shed around it to cook, sit and chat. Generally we go there every weekend and spend full day.. from morning breakfast to late evening tea. We work in the farm, cook, play some games and return back. Form some time kids also help us in the farm work; else they play, read, watch or just roam around. It’s like a picnic every weekend :).
As per the calculation with the available vegetable garden we can grow veggies for 5 families on a regular basis. We have not reached there but sometimes we definitely get it in abundance. Most of the times we have shared with our neighbours free of charge but charged sometimes as well.
We are very happy with the decision we took. Each one of us look forward for the weekend to visit the farm. If you would like to join us for any of the weekend, we’ll be happy to host you. You can work (if you wish), have food and play with us. Just reach out without thinking too much.
