Terrace Garden

I would term Terrace Garden as Escape on Demand. Whatever the feeling may be just step out of your room and you have the Mother Nature to share with.

It all started with two small planters April 2021 in which we grew Amaranthus and Fenugreek, along with some radishes.

After getting some confidence we setup raised beds with trellis. The idea is to have a multilayer setup here. We can grow veggies in on the beds and let the creepers go on top of trellis. We later extended to add some ornamental plants. We also have some fruit planters as well in which we planted Pomegranate, Guava(Red) and Sapota which regularly give fruits. We have also planted Butter Fruit as well but not sure, if it would fruit or not.

Once things start moving and few months into growing veggies we needed compost to make sure there are enough nutrients in the soil. Instead of buying, we decided to make it our own using Bokashi Composting process. All of the kitchen waste goes into a container which is airtight, along with bokashi powder everyday. Once the container is full we keep it untouched for two weeks and then move all the semi compose material to a box which has wholes in. So second half of the process is done in contact with air. Also during the process we get bokashi liquid as by product, which we can mix with water and feed it to the plants.

We regularly get fresh veggies from our terrace garden, which fulfils about 30% of regulars needs. There is no match for the taste and feelings of both sowing and harvesting. We have also have some herbs at our garden. Mostly in evenings, we just pluck them and create a fresh herbal tea to enjoy it with the view. I also enjoy doing Yoga alternate days in the garden. Sometimes birds also joins me 🙂

Maintaining such garden also requires regular time commitments. On an average I spent close 45 mins in doing different activities, which does not include watering as that is automated. But that return you get from it is just amazing. Our nature gives us so much, without asking a lot in return.

So don’t think too much. Just start with a Pot !!
