The title for the presentation was\u00a0<strong>Performance Characterization in Large distributed file system with GlusterFS . <\/strong>Few\u00a0days before the talk I looked at the attendee list to get \u00a0the feel of the audience. I felt \u00a0that not many of them have used GlusterFS by now. So I decided rather than covering lots of performance part I should cover the concepts of GlusterFS and talk about the performance challenges which can be there by design like file-system in user-space etc.<\/p>\n<p>I am glad I did that as there were only 4 folks from ~70 attendees who have used GlusterFS before.<\/p>\n<p>[slideshare id=26228214&amp;doc=performance-20characterization-20in-20large-20distributed-20file-20system-20with-20glusterfs-130916054729-phpapp01]<\/p>\n<p>By going through the concepts the audience were able to compare GlusterFS with other solutions in the market. They asked interesting question about hashing algorithm, replication etc.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_0649_v1 by hizibiz, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/hizibiz\/9760016985\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_0649_v1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3729\/9760016985_146516d78f.jpg?resize=500%2C333\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I attended the meetup till lunch. Other than giving the presentation I attended a keynote on <strong>Challenges in scaling cloud storage<\/strong>\u00a0 by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/srivibhavan\">Srivibhavan (Vibhav) Balaram<\/a>\u00a0in which he talked\u00a0about the challenges in cloud storage and \u00a0QoS in cloud environment. I also attended &#8220;<strong>Scaling using event driven programming with Perl, A tutorial&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/aveek-misra\/5\/110\/364\">\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/aveek-misra\/5\/110\/364\">Aveek Mishra<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This was again a very informative and well managed event.
