{"id":1762,"date":"2016-05-04T14:04:51","date_gmt":"2016-05-04T14:04:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.neependra.net\/?p=1762"},"modified":"2016-05-04T14:04:51","modified_gmt":"2016-05-04T14:04:51","slug":"docker-and-devops-meetup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neependra.net\/index.php\/2016\/05\/04\/docker-and-devops-meetup\/","title":{"rendered":"Docker and DevOps Meetup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mohitsethi\">Mohit<\/a> and I met at\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.meetup.com\/Bangalore-Github-Meetup\/events\/229454990\/\">first GitHub meetup of Bangalore<\/a> in March&#8217;16 and discussed that it would be a good idea to do a joint\u00a0meetup of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meetup.com\/Docker-Bangalore\/\">Docker<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meetup.com\/devops-bangalore\/\">DevOps<\/a>\u00a0groups of Bangalore. Later we followed up and decided to do it on 30th April&#8217;16. It was hosted at IBM&#8217;s EGL office in Bangalore. We decided to do a full day event as we received a good number of topic suggestions.\u00a0250 people RSVPed for the meetup and ~100 people came for the meetup.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Docker and DevOp meetup - Apr'16\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/neependra\/26718761472\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7608\/26718761472_0d15574529_m.jpg?resize=240%2C135&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Docker and DevOp meetup - Apr'16\" width=\"240\" height=\"135\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>I started the meetup by going through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.docker.com\/sites\/default\/files\/WP_Docker%20and%20the%203%20ways%20devops_07.31.2015%20(1).pdf\">Docker and the Three Ways of DevOps white paper<\/a>\u00a0to reiterate why Docker and DevOps goes hand in hand in recent times.<\/p>\n<p>After that <a href=\"https:\/\/in.linkedin.com\/in\/jeevachelladhurai\">Jeeva S. <\/a>from IBM talked about doing\u00a0CI\/CD using<a href=\"http:\/\/files.meetup.com\/11185112\/CI-CD%20using%20GitHub%20Jenkins%20and%20Docker%20by%20Jeeva.pdf\"> GitHub, Jenkins, and Docker<\/a>. After talking about Jenkins 2.0 features, he showed how he built a CI\/CD pipeline using <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/sjeeva\/docker-birthday-3\">Docker 3rd Birthday App and Jenkins<\/a>. Another gentleman from IBM then talked about how IBM uses Jenkins to do CI for the Power Platform.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/in.linkedin.com\/pub\/sudipto-biswas\/11\/16\/aa1\">Sudipto Biswas <\/a>and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/manjunathkumatagi\">Manjunath K<\/a>\u00a0 then shared their team&#8217;s experience of <a href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/6qykNW\">running\u00a010K containers on one physical machine.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next\u00a0session was from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/burrsutter\">Burr Sutter<\/a> of Red Hat, who gave an excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/helloworldmsa\">presentations on Mircoservices and DevOps.<\/a> He compared Docker and Microservices to\u00a0magic, which we think is\u00a0going to solve all the world&#8217;s problems. Is it ? \u00a0Docker and Microservices are really hot these days but in some time this is going to stabilize and we&#8217;ll move to some-thing new.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Docker and Mircoservices hotness\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/neependra\/26208055373\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7716\/26208055373_217d903930_m.jpg?resize=240%2C133&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Docker and Mircoservices hotness\" width=\"240\" height=\"133\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>But that does not mean companies should not adopt them. In the near future\u00a0they would become normal and we don&#8217;t think of them as a universal solver of the world&#8217;s problems \ud83d\ude42 . He also shared a blueprint of the journey which every\u00a0company has to go through to adopt DevOps and Microservices.<\/p>\n<p>After that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/p_chhetri\">Pradeep Chhetri <\/a>gave a good introduction\u00a0of <a href=\"http:\/\/mesos.apache.org\/\">Mesos<\/a> and how we can use it for doing CI\/CD using Jenkins framework.<\/p>\n<p>Post lunch we had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/narainabhishek\">Abhishek Narain <\/a>from Microsoft, who talked about <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-in\/services\/container-service\/\">Azure container service<\/a> and how we can use Mesos or Docker Swarm as a container orchestration engine on the Azure Platform.<\/p>\n<p>After that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chetan_tarale\">Harendra Singh<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chetan_tarale\">Chetan Tarale<\/a> from Shippable gave a presentation on <a href=\"https:\/\/app.shippable.com\/\">Shippable<\/a> platform with a demo.<\/p>\n<p>Last presentation of the day was from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/baljanak\">Balaji <\/a>of <a href=\"http:\/\/calm.io\/\">Calm.io<\/a>, who talked about doing CI\/CD with Jenkins &amp;\u00a0Calm.io.
